Rooley moor to Winter hill


Classic ride, woke up late and set off at 12, headed over to rochdale via bridleways and lanes.Felt really good climbing up to rooley moor and over to cragg quarry, had a quick stop as it looked like they were doing more work on the trails up there and then carried on down to edenfield

Rode down to irwell vale and did the big climb up to holcombe moor via robin hoods well cut over the moor on the old road past ellen strange memorial and over to pilgrims cross

Over the moor and down to the horseshoe loop past the firing range and dropping down into crowthorn

Past the strawberry duck, onto the witton weaver way over the a666 and start the climb up onto Darwin moor

Down from darwin moor on the muddest decent ever and back on the weavers way  towards Belmont, diggers had been on the bridleway making deep mud everywhere

Quick nip onto country lanes to belmont and the the long haul up to the mast on winter hill, saw another mtber coming down, its very cut up and boggy at the moment. From the top the views back to holcombe and scout moor were ace, and i could see blackpool tower looking out to the coast.

Back from the mast to smithills and then to bolton were it was rush hour so rode off road tracks to nob end and then back to Radcliffe on the canal. Just under 50 miles with over 4000 feet of climbing in total. top ride.

Cragg Quarry

Quick blast up to cragg quarry with mike today, rode to his house on road for 1 oclock. Then headed out of bury and rode off road all the way using trails ive not ben on for a bit. Ive forgotten how hard the climb is from the top of bury road in ramsbottom up the bridleway, i dapped once on it on the steep rocky section.

We headed out over to owt bets on edenfield road and then did the long climb up the coal road onto scout moor, we used the service road for the windmalls to get across to rooley moor road and arrived at cragg quarry, We did a lap stopping and taking pictures on the fun bits.

We were going to do lee quarry as well but mike wasnt feeling upto it as he was hung over and tired so we headed back via rooley moor road to edenfield i went back to mine via radcliffe canal. 30 miles in total.
